In investigation process the main task of an investigating officer is as follows:

i.to identify physical evidence,

ii.gathering information,

iii.evidence collection,

iv.evidence protection and preservation,

v.collection of information from witnesses,

vi.suspect interviewing and interrogation.

vii.formation of opinion on the basis of collected evidence and to place the person before the Magistrate/Tribunal, as the case may be, against whom material is available in support of commission of the alleged offence.
